NEW YORK, Feb. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Nickelodeon’s Big Time Rush gave viewers some much–needed spring break fun, as the “Big Time Beach Party” Presidents’ Day special (Monday, Feb. 21, 8-9 p.m., ET/PT) ranked as Monday’s number-one show on broadcast and basic cable with kids 6-11 and tweens 9-14 and topped basic cable in the time period with total viewers (4.3 million). Guest-starring Russell Brand (Get Him to the Greek, Hop and Arthur), “Big Time Beach Party” increased Nick’s prior-year time period levels by triple digits across the board and handily bested competitively scheduled programming with high double-digit gains in every target demo.
Big Time Rush’s “Big Time Beach Party” averaged a 6.6/2.35MM with K2-11 (+164% over last year); an 8.3/1.78MM among K6-11 (up (186%); and a 7.2/1.54MM tweens 9-14 (up +177%). With total viewers, the special averaged 4.2 million P2+, up +185% over last year’s time period.
Beyond the success of the special, Big Time Rush and their fans are gearing up for more excitement as the group prepares for a headline performance of their new single, “Boyfriend,” live at Nickelodeon’s 2011 Kids’ Choice Awards on Saturday, April 2, at 8 p.m. (ET/tape delayed for West Coast), hosted by Jack Black from the Galen Center at USC in Los Angeles.
In “Big Time Beach Party,” Big Time Rush and the Palm Woods kids get to hang out at Griffin’s beach house for the day. Carlos and Logan hunt for buried treasure, James falls for a pretty girl who he suspects is a mermaid and Kendall and Jo’s relationship hits the skids. The special featured a performance of “Boyfriend” and a cover of The Beach Boys’ “Dance, Dance, Dance.”
A co-production with Sony Music, Big Time Rush launched last year as Nickelodeon’s highest-rated and most-watched live-action premiere with kids, tweens and total viewers (6.8 million). (Feb. 18, 2011) – Nickelodeon music group Big Time Rush gear up for a fury of excitement as they take center stage for a headline performance of their new single, “Boyfriend,” live at Nickelodeon’s 2011 Kids’ Choice Awards on Saturday, April 2, at 8 p.m. (ET/tape delayed for West Coast), hosted by Jack Black. Leading up to their Kids’ Choice Awards performance debut, Kendall, James, Carlos and Logan will perform live on The View on Presidents’ Day, Monday, Feb. 21, at 11:00 a.m. (ET/PT). Later that night, Nickelodeon will premiere the series’ hour-long special, “Big Time Beach Party,” guest starring Russell Brand (Get Him to the Greek, HOP and Arthur) as himself, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT).
Nickelodeon’s 2011 Kids’ Choice Awards honors the hottest celebrities in music, TV, sports and film and will air live on from the Galen Center at USC in Los Angeles. Kids will be able to cast their votes for this year’s slimefest online at http://www.nick.com/kca11 beginning March 7 in a total of 20 categories. Surprise awards also will be announced during the show. Kids also will be able to vote via the Nick mobile website http://m.nick.com/kca11 and through a brand-new iPhone application. For the first time ever, KCA voting will be extended to an iPad-optimized site, TeenNick.com, and the Nickelodeon Facebook page, facebook.com/nickelodeon. The Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards is broadcast in more than 300 million households globally on Nickelodeon channels around the world.

What’s your favorite food or vice to get you through a long recording session?
As bad as it is…coffee. I usually take down a couple of cups during a session.
What song on your album doesn’t get enough love that people should really listen to?
We have so many great songs on the album, but one of my personal favorites is “Nothing Even Matters.”
What kind of music did you grow up listening to?
I grew up with the Beatles, B.B. King, Elvis, Eric Clapton, Aerosmith, Incubus, Taking Back Sunday, Radiohead, and Michael Jackson.

What boy bands out there do you think are great—and why?
Looking at the past, ‘NSYNC was the greatest in my opinion. They literally spent years rehearsing before they did any major tour and thanks to that, they were a well-oiled machine. Justin Timberlake is a prime example of how a truly talented artist can then transition from a group into a successful solo career, and the lesson I take from that is to never stop training and striving to get better.
Who are your celebrity crushes?
I have had a crush on Emma Watson since the first Harry Potter. No, I haven’t met her yet, but a guy can hope.
What do you look for in a girl?
For me to be interested in a girl, she has to have an outgoing personality and a passion of her own. Low maintenance is nice, too.

Why do you think Snoop Dogg wanted to work with you?
We were very excited when we found out that Snoop Dogg wanted to do the show. He told us that his daughter was a big fan and that once he knew that, it was a done deal. In his many years of doing shows and videos, his daughter had not once wanted to come to the set as much as she did for the Big Time Rush Snoop “Boyfriend” video!
What was it like working with him?
Working with Snoop Dogg was just as awesome as anyone might think. He met all of our expectations and more. He’s just as cool and relaxed as he appears.
You’ve worked with Snoop Dogg now, but who are your dream collaborators?
We would love to work with Justin Timberlake. We all look up to him very much and it would be a dream to collaborate on a song with him.
